the first leg

Well I figured maybe I should start this whole blog thing now for lack of anything better to do while I sit and wait at Sydney international terminal for my flight to Dallas in a couple of hours. I know I’m in the right place because of all the cowboy hats and funny accents and the heftier man sitting a few seats away who can’t find a good burger joint in this god forsaken airport.
I can’t believe I’m finally on my way to Costa Rica. It seems like just yesterday I was thinking about bible schools and wondering if maybe I should look into one for next year, recalling a few snippets of high school Spanish and deciding that Central America would be a good study spot.
Of course it wasn’t yesterday because yesterday I didn’t have time to think.  After packing all my things into my 65 litre back pack, then repacking because dad decided 23 kgs is really a bit too heavy (he also decided that I didn’t need 6 pairs of shoes, 8 books, or my brand new alphabet stamp set, though I did manage to sneak in the letter B without getting caught), I finally had my two backpacks next to the front door ready to go.
This morning at 4 we left for the airport and some of my friends were there to see me off which was so nice. There was only a little bit of crying and the great plane food took my mind off things!
I am nervous about getting there and making friends, adjusting to a new culture and that sort of thing but I’m trusting the lord has a plan for me over there and am hoping that my brain will become amazingly quick and I will pick up Spanish again in a jiffy.
Anyway that’s all for now…I’ve never done a blog before so I don’t really know the limits of what people want to hear about and what people couldn’t care less about… but I will write some more in the next few days (weeks?) to tell anyone who is interested about where I’m staying and the people etc etc. Congrats if you’ve made it to the end of my first ever blog! Happy Australia day!
